Downstream Event Analysis
Because lab spending is low in comparison to other medical services, it has not been a traditional focus area for cost savings. However, our experience and research indicates that excessive lab spending adds up to big dollars, and lab testing errors can contribute significantly to unnecessary downstream medical costs.

Downstream Event Analysis (“DEA”) targets lab issues of highest financial impact. DEA utilizes claims data to detect an unusual frequency of adverse events as an indicator of possible lab quality issues. False positives resulting from statistical error, equipment calibration lapses or specimen handling defects may produce unnecessary downstream testing, or cascading costs, that can be detected through claims data analysis enhanced with medical record analysis. Our laboratory claims analysis permits tracking the patient through multiple providers – a cohort analysis model. Our analysis uses claims and also relies on document inspection (order/requisition, lab results, lab quality control tests, etc.), as well as our years of experience in analyzing lab claims and operations.  We offer these services to healthcare providers, payors and anyone engaged in the lab business with an interest in improving quality and financial performance.
